The School of Engineering
Technology at the University of Maine seeks an experienced mechanical engineer
to join our faculty on September 1, 2014 as an academic-year tenure-track
Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology.
The Mechanical Engineering
Technology program at the University of Maine seeks to prepare graduates to
make a difference in our world through product innovations and applications in
thermal systems, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes.~ Our design
and build capstone projects demonstrate our students’ successes as well as
potential entrepreneurial opportunities for product development.~Information

encouraged to collaborate with the University of Maine Advanced Manufacturing
Center (AMC). The AMC is a product development and solutions organization that
maintains a dedicated full time staff of mechanical engineers, electrical
engineers, machinists, and technicians in a 30,000 square foot state of the art

The successful applicant
will develop and teach courses at all levels of the curriculum and will be open
to using teaching styles that reach students who otherwise might not choose
engineering.~ Engineering technology faculty members clearly communicate with
students the connections between engineering principles and professional
practice.~ Our program prioritizes student professionalism, teamwork, and
collegiality modeled by the faculty.~ The selection committee will value prior
successful teaching experience.~ The selected faculty member will engage in
scholarship, professional service and/or consulting, and service to the
discipline and the community, as well as professional society activities,
ETAC/ABET accreditation efforts, recruitment, student advising, and University
committees. The department encourages faculty members to pursue professional
development opportunities.
The successful candidate
must have been employed post-graduation for at least three years as a
full-time, permanent hire mechanical engineer in an area such as product
development, prototyping, design or manufacturing.~ Candidates with progress
toward licensure as a professional engineer or with current licensure are
preferred.~ Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering from an ABET accredited program (or equivalent satisfactory for
licensure) and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a
closely related discipline by date of hire.~ Assistant professors must achieve
licensure to be granted tenure.
