The successful candidate will be considered for one of the available endowed chair positions in the
College of Engineering.
Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related Engineering
discipline is required. The department offers a broad range of course topics to its students;
however the person selected for this position will be expected to be focused in Human Factors or
Ergonomics. Specifically, the candidate should possess expertise in the sciences of Human
Factors and Ergonomics as they relate to assuring that manufacturing and service systems are
designed and managed to optimize the abilities of humans. Familiarity with the sciences of work
measurement, work design, anthropometrics, perception, cognition, anthropometrics,
biomechanics, information processing, and related fields as they apply to error reduction,
productivity, and efficiency is required. Research and or professional experience in the health
care delivery system is desirable. In addition, it would be an advantage if the persons applying
for this position were well versed in one or more these areas of healthcare engineering,
engineering management or systems engineering. Preference will be given to applicants holding
at least one degree in Industrial Engineering. For appointment at the assistant professor rank, the
candidate must demonstrate potential for teaching and scholarly excellence. For appointment at
an advanced rank, the candidate must have a record of teaching excellence and scholarly
accomplishment commensurate with a tenured position. Candidate must address the needs of a
student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language,
and academic preparation through course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
Responsibilities:
The person selected for this tenure-track position will be responsible for teaching in the
undergraduate and graduate programs, administering the graduate program in Human
Factors/Ergonomics, student advising including advising HF/E Masters projects and theses, and
developing a research program related to his/her field of interest. In addition, the appointee will
actively participate in strengthening the present ties between the ISE Department and its
surrounding high tech industries and will embark on establishing new connections with high tech
companies. Additionally, the appointee will participate in Department, College, and Department
committee assignments and service activities that connect the Department to the College of
Engineering and the rest of the campus.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
