NOTES:

Purdue University’s College of Engineering has identified four winning research teams for faculty hiring during the coming year.  These preeminent teams, chosen from among 32 that competed this fall, were selected because their work has the potential for dramatic impact and international preeminence. New faculty will be hired to strengthen the teams as part of the strategic growth plan, which will add as many as 107 faculty members over five years. In addition to the team hiring, other hires will be related to strengthening disciplines and taking advantage of opportunities to enhance quality and diversity.  The strategic growth plan is part of Big Moves, a range of university-wide initiatives designed to broaden Purdue's global impact and enhance educational opportunities for its students.

One of the four teams is engaged in research and education related to the flexible and efficient usage of spectrum.  This team will focus on techniques for more efficient use of the increasingly congested radio spectrum for communications in commercial, military and emergency services applications.  The College of Engineering is accepting applications for two tenured or tenure-track faculty (at any level) in this area.  These new faculty members will build on strengths and leverage existing research capabilities existing at Purdue.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science or a related field.  They should have a distinguished academic record, exceptional potential for world-class research, and a commitment to teach in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Specific research fields of interest for these positions include, but are not limited to, spectrally efficient techniques for modulation and demodulation, cognitive radio, spectrum sensing, applications of game theory to communications, spectrum policy, theoretical and experimental software radio, economic analysis of wireless systems, auction theory applied to communication systems, and techniques related to shared spectrum systems.  The primary faculty appointment will be in a school of the College of Engineering and will depend on the candidate’s qualifications.  The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in topics related to spectrum, policy, and communications, conduct research in their field of expertise, publish and present research findings, participate in professional activities, and advise graduate student research.

Submit your application online at: https://engineering.purdue.edu/Engr/InfoFor/Employment . The application should include a cover letter, a complete and detailed vitae, and statements of research and teaching interests. Also, please include names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses for three or more references. For questions regarding the application process, please contact Marion Ragland (ragland@purdue.edu). Screening of applications will begin January 1, 2014 and will continue until the positions are filled. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
