Assistant Professor of Engineering
The Picker Engineering Program at Smith College invites
applications for a tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor of Engineering
to begin July 2015. Responsibilities include teaching four engineering courses
per year, developing an active research program within engineering, and
advising student research. Teaching responsibilities include one or more of our
core courses (mass and energy balances, statics, circuits, thermodynamics, and
fluid mechanics) in addition to our introductory and capstone experiences and
developing electives in the candidate's area of specialty.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely
related discipline by the time of appointment and a commitment to excellence in
teaching and research. Candidates with postdoctoral or other substantial
experience and demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations
are especially encouraged to apply.
Smith College's ABET-accredited Picker Engineering
Program is situated within a liberal arts college and is the nation's first
such program at a women's college. The Program, which is located in a newly
constructed, LEED?
certified, 400,000 square foot science and engineering
building with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, strives to
prepare our diverse engineering student body, from 33 U.S. states and 24
countries, for global citizenship and a sustainable future. Graduates have gone
on to leadership positions in industry, non-profit, government, and higher
education. Faculty and student research currently addresses contemporary issues
in engineering with applications in energy, the environment, human health, and
