About the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of six departments in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management. It offers M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in electrical and computer engineering and computer science. In addition, it also has M.S. degree programs in cyber operations and cyber warfare. The degree programs are accredited by both the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://ww.abet.org.

The department has a strong record of publication and externally funded research with particular emphasis on defense-related issues. As a result of strong equipment funding from the USAF, our teaching and research laboratories are extremely well equipped and state-of-the-art. All military students attend AFIT fully funded by their respective service branches. Faculty salaries are very competitive and are paid on 10-month academic year contracts with the potential for full-year funding based on obtaining summer research support. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Akron is seeking qualified candidates for hiring at the Assistant Professor level. The following six  positions are tenure-track.  Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related fields.  The successful candidates will be expected to establish and maintain independent, externally funded, research programs and contribute to our B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs by teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, advising graduate students, as well as performing other academic duties as may be requested by the department.  The areas of interest include

(1)   Aerospace Engineering (Job opening #7648-two positions).  Special consideration will be given to candidates with proven strength in the areas of: (a) aerospace materials, manufacturing and design, (b) aerospace instrumentation and control, (c) space propulsion (supersonic and hypersonic propulsion), and (d) design of aerospace components.

(2)   Systems Engineering (Job Opening #7652). Preference will be given to applicants with a background in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing or automotive engineering.

(3)   Materials and manufacturing, (Job Opening #7653).  Of special interest are candidates with expertise in: (a) materials processing, (b) materials characterization, (c) tribology (surface engineering, friction mitigation), (d) engineered materials (adaptive, smart, high temperature and coatings), and (e) additive manufacturing.

Faculty Position in Transportation Engineering

The Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management, at the University of California,
Berkeley, seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor (academic year) in Quantitative Landscape
Ecology, with an expected start date of July 1, 2013. The department seeks candidates whose
research, teaching and service position them to develop a strong interdisciplinary program that
connects with one or more related programs on the Berkeley campus. Areas of interest include: (1)
characterization of how landscape patterns are formed and change over time through interactions
among physical and biological processes and disturbance regimes; (2) characterization of how
landscape patterns and changes influence biological or physical processes; (3) extrapolating
ecological information across multiple scales to provide information for ecosystem and resource
management and environmental policy; (4) use of DNA analysis, genomics, and genetic modeling to
determine the genetic structure of populations, to understand the processes that affect connectivity
and genetic diversity on landscapes; (5) exploration of links between past, current and future land use
on climate and energy; and/or (6) understanding links between landscape pattern and process under a
changing climate.

The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in a relevant field such as (but not limited to)
landscape ecology, ecology, geography, biological sciences, environmental sciences, forestry, or
systems ecology. The Ph.D. or equivalent is required by the date of hire. We seek a candidate with
strong analytical skills who can conduct innovative, basic and/or applied field-based studies in
landscape ecology, and can communicate their work effectively to a broader public. Applicants will
work across agricultural, urban, wildland and/or interface domains. Skills in remote sensing, systems
modeling, or geostatistics are strongly encouraged. The applicant should have a strong foundation in
quantitative analysis and possess the ability to interact with colleagues in a broad array of disciplines
in environmental sciences. The applicant should have a strong background in the application of
ecology at large spatial scales and be able to relate their work to natural resource policy through
engagement of agency and cooperative extension. The successful candidate will be expected to offer
an upper division undergraduate course in landscape ecology, as well as contribute to other
Department teaching needs through consultation with the Chair. Graduate level teaching is
encouraged, and is a part of ESPM faculty teaching expectations.

The department comprises 41 full-time faculty with $10 million in annual research funding, 100 Ph.D. students, 300 MS students, and a total combined graduate/undergraduate student population of over 1500. The first position requires expertise in manufacturing processes, with a strong background in one or more areas in mechanics, robotics, material science, composites, or nano-technology. A Ph.D. in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or other related field is required. Candidates must have the background to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in manufacturing processes, micro/nano-manufacturing, and/or composites.

Candidates for the second position are required to have a background in systems engineering, a BS in Industrial, Production, or Systems Engineering, and a Ph.D. in industrial engineering or other related field to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in and establish a research focus in production systems, service systems, healthcare systems, or energy systems. 

In addition, candidates for both positions must have a strong record of scholarly achievement, familiarity with writing proposals for competitive funding, and effective oral and written communication skills.  The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, secure and conduct externally funded research, publish scholarly work, advice undergraduate and graduate (including Ph.D. level) students, and collaborate with researchers in local industries to develop industry-based research.
