Faculty Position in Transportation Engineering
The Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Tennessee is
seeking candidates with research and teaching interests in transportation
safety to fill a position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Review
of applications will begin soon after their receipt, starting December 1, 2012,
and will continue until the position is filled.
Candidates must hold an
earned doctoral degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or closely related
field and be authorized to work in the US at the time the position is
filled. Demonstrated publishing records in scholarly journals and ability
to sustain a strong externally funded research program are a must. Strong
communication skills, an ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment,
and demonstrated research and teaching records in transportation safety are
required. Desired qualifications include a demonstrated leadership
capability in a professional/academic environment, the ability to develop
collaborative relationships with nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
and other agencies, and currently holds tenure at a reputable academic
institution.
The Department is scheduled to relocate by Fall, 2013 to a
new $25-million teaching and research facility which includes four
state-of-the-art transportation engineering laboratories and a driving
simulator. The Department has strong ties with Tennessee Department of
Transportation and is entering a significant new era and is expected to play an
important role in the College of Engineering's vision to grow as a leading
research institution and to take advantage of unique opportunities for research
partnerships with ORNL and the fastest supercomputer in the world at the nearby
Oak Ridge, TN. CEE also interacts with on-campus centers including the
Center for Transportation Research, Institute for a Secure and Sustainable
Environment, the UT Medical Center, the Department of Industrial Engineering,
and the Department of Geography.
