The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. An earned doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, and evidence of the potential for excellence in teaching and research is required. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in his/her specialty area, establish a strong externally funded research program, and develop collaborative research within Civil Engineering or across disciplines. Preference will be given to candidates who have bachelor’s degrees from ABET accredited engineering programs or equivalent and those who have obtained or will obtain professional licensure in a reasonable period of time.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers two BS degrees (CE and EnvE) and two graduate degrees (MS CE, MS Construction Management), and participates in two interdisciplinary PhD programs. The department has fifteen full-time faculty and approximately 250 students. The School of Mines is a public state university offering baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees in science and engineering with a student population of approximately 2, 300 traditional and non-traditional learners representing 38 states and 32 countries. The university is located at the foot of the beautiful Black Hills in Rapid City, South Dakota's second largest city. Twenty-five miles from Mount Rushmore, Rapid City has a relatively mild climate and the Black Hills offer numerous opportunities for summer and winter outdoor experiences.
