The Department of Mechanical Engineering (http://engineering.utsa.edu/~mechanical/ ) in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applicants to apply for a tenure track Assistant Professor position. Department of Mechanical Engineering is looking for an outstanding, innovative, and dynamic individual with a Ph.D. in Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Preferred areas of interest are modeling/simulation, optimization, lean manufacturing, and applications of lean tools and concepts in the energy, environment, sustainability, and healthcare systems. The successful candidate must be able to support the teaching mission of the Department and build a successful, externally funded research program and support an active research consortium for the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Lean Systems (CAMLS http://camls.utsa.edu/). The candidate is expected to develop and teach innovative courses, supervise graduate students, obtain funding for their research programs, and communicate their research results in quality journals and conferences. Some prior experience of interacting with industries via collaborative projects and/or delivery of short courses is desired. Interdisciplinary activities in research and teaching and interactions with the other departments within the College of Engineering are expected. Recent Ph.D. candidates with a strong commitment to research are particularly encouraged to apply for the position.

The College of Engineering at UTSA was established in 2000 and currently houses four departments. The Department is a fast-growing research oriented department with current extramural funding exceeding $14,000,000. The Department is offering 4 degree programs: BS in Mechanical Engineering, MS in Mechanical Engineering, MS in Advanced Manufacturing and Enterprise Engineering, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering with concentrations in Thermal & Fluid Systems, Design and Manufacturing Systems, and Mechanics & Materials.

The Search Committee will begin review of applications immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The target start date is August 2012. Applicants must submit the following materials:
