Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Responsibilities include leadership of a research-active academic department, program development with industrial partners, and stewardship of strong academic programs. Applicants should have an earned doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field; strong leadership ability with proven interpersonal skills; a proven research record with evidence of international recognition, and a commitment to engineering education. Applications from women and minorities are strongly encouraged.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has 84 regular and affiliate faculty members and 35 staff. The research activities and educational programs include research in communications and signal processing, computer engineering, controls, microelectronics, and electrophysics. With more than 800 undergraduate students, 700 graduate students and annual research expenditures of more than $37 million, the department is a central education and research unit at the University of Maryland. At the undergraduate level, the department offers degree programs in Computer Engineering (in collaboration with the department of Computer Science) and Electrical Engineering.
