The College of Engineering at Kansas State University invites applicants for the position of Full Professor in the area of engineering applied to human or animal health care, starting in the Fall of 2012. The candidate will be expected to leverage existing expertise and provide leadership to establish cross-department collaborations that promote the College as a national leader in the biomedical arena. College of Engineering faculty already work in the following related areas:
. Biomedical Sensing and Device Development: Sensor design, instrumentation, wearable/ingestible/implanted medical devices, and signal processing
. System Integration: plug-n-play medical systems, device integration frameworks, middleware for health monitoring, and high-assurance software
. Health System Operations and Analyses: Facility planning, economic assessment, and modeling/analysis to improve health care effectiveness
. Crosscutting Areas: Human factors, bioinformatics, and data mining
. Application Scenarios: Telemedicine, home care, health prediction, pervasive care environments, epidemic modeling, space & military medicine, human performance analysis, gerontechnology, and veterinary applications
This work has been funded by various federal agencies (e.g., NSF, FDA, NIH, NASA, DHS, and USDA), national laboratories, and industry partners.
Considerable intra- and inter-college collaborative research in human and animal health care is ongoing at KSU. Given the anticipated arrival of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF) and ongoing research at the KSU Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI), significant potential also exists for interdisciplinary work related to disease and its epidemiological spread.
The candidate must be a recognized leader in a technical area related to human or animal health care and should have demonstrated commitment to both research and teaching. She or he should have an earned doctorate or equivalent in engineering, science, or a health-related field and offer credentials to support appointment as a Full Professor.
Applicants should submit the following, in PDF format, to
biomedSearch@engg.ksu.edu: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of research vision, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, contact information for three references, and copies of representative publications.
Application review will begin January 30, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
Kansas State University is an Affirmative Action Equal Opportunity Employer.
The KSU College of Engineering is committed to diversity, and women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply. Background check will be required.
