The School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications for the position of Department Head, Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (MANE). We are seeking an individual to provide strong, dynamic and innovative leadership for sustaining excellence in teaching, research and activities in the engineering community. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate, or foreign degree equivalent, in mechanical, aerospace, or nuclear engineering, or in a closely related discipline, as well as an established national and international reputation in research, and at least ten (10) years of experience during which time a distinguished record of academic and professional leadership has been established. Candidates must be eligible for appointment to the rank of Full Professor with tenure.

Duties will include administrative responsibilities, such as departmental planning and budgeting, staffing and supervision; departmental representation to the School of Engineering, to the Institute, to students and their families and to the academic community; as well as leadership respect to the department’s academic curriculum and programs.

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace & Nuclear Engineering (MANE) ranks in the top 20 departments of its kind nationwide, and has programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in all of its programs. Using two new state-of-the-art wind tunnels, a unique 100-MeV linear accelerator (LINAC), and the Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations (CCNI), undergraduate and graduate students conduct a variety of ground- breaking research—from wind energy to nuclear energy, from nanoscale materials for biomedical applications to complex mechanical systems for next generation aerospace designs, and more. The Department has built a strong national and international reputation. The Department is actively building on these strengths and rapidly growing through a carefully planned expansion of its faculty in such diverse areas as micro-scale systems, biotechnology, information technology, nanotechnology, and enabling fields (detailed information is available at http://mane.rpi.edu/).
