The University: Cal Poly Pomona is one of two polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University system. Our ethnically diverse student population of approximately 22,000 enrolls in 52 baccalaureate, 26 master’s degree programs, 11 credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership, presented by 1,200 faculty. We recruit students increasingly from throughout California and beyond. The students are success and career focused and extremely diverse. We are proud of our status as a Hispanic Serving Institution. We have a strong commitment to supporting scholarship, research, and student achievement. Our scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W. K. Kellogg, is located about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles in one of the most dynamic economic and cultural regions in the country, and within an hour’s drive of beaches, mountains, and desert. The university is committed to diversifying its faculty and staff and has made educational equity one of its highest priorities. The mission of the university is to advance learning and knowledge by linking theory and practice in all disciplines, and to prepare students for lifelong learning, leadership, and careers in a changing, multicultural world.

The College of Engineering:
The College of Engineering is the 17th largest engineering school in the nation, and is ranked as one of the best public undergraduate engineering colleges in the nation.  The College has had over fifty-five years of success in producing over 25,000 workforce ready engineers and engineering technologists.  Our graduates are working throughout California and the nation to meet increasingly complex technical and socio-economic challenges posed by the ever-growing global economy.

The Aerospace Engineering Department: The Department, which serves about 500 students majoring in Aerospace Engineering, provides a comprehensive education that includes in-depth instruction in aerodynamics, aircraft and spacecraft structures, flight mechanics, orbital mechanics, flight propulsion, systems engineering and the design of aerospace vehicles.  U.S. News and World Report ranked the Aerospace Engineering Department 4th in the nation in 2001 and 5th in the nation in 2002 among institutions offering BS and MS degrees in aerospace engineering.  About one third of our undergraduate enrollment is minority and Hispanic.  The Department also averages from ten to fifteen percent female undergraduate students each year.

The aerospace curriculum emphasizes analysis and problem solving, computer applications, laboratory work and exposure to open-ended problems and design issues while fostering teamwork, communication skills, and individual professionalism.  Our students engage in AIAA design competitions and national UAV competitions. The department also requires an undergraduate thesis (Senior Project), which is usually undertaken by teams of students. The Department has ten instructional laboratories, including well-equipped Subsonic and Supersonic Wind Tunnel Labs, a UAV Lab and a Spacecraft Design Lab.
