The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida invites applications for two tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Transportation Systems at the levels of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.   The positions are open to candidates with research expertise in any area of Transportation Systems.   Preferred areas of expertise include those that can attract strategic research funding, student interest, and graduate employment opportunities. These might include: smart and sustainable transportation systems; ITS and traffic operations; transportation safety; freight transportation and logistics;  autonomous and connected vehicles; transportation and land use; innovation in transportation infrastructure and design; transportation system performance; and big data analytics.

The selected candidate must possess the following: (1) An earned PhD in Civil Engineering or a field closely related to Transportation Systems; (2) An established record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, and externally funded research commensurate with the candidate’s level of experience; (3) The ability to attract a team of high-quality graduate research students; (4) The ability and desire to interact closely with the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR); (5) The ability and desire to mentor and collaborate with a diverse multidisciplinary team of colleagues; and (6) A passion for enhancing a nationally recognized research and educational program in Transportation. 

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of South Florida includes 27 faculty members, 254 junior and senior undergraduate students, and 190 graduate students, including 70 doctoral students.  The department currently has 5 faculty members in Transportation.  Interested individuals can learn more at http://ce.eng.usf.edu.

It is expected that the candidate will work closely with CUTR, a multidisciplinary research, training, and workforce development center based in the College of Engineering.  CUTR leads a Tier 1 University Research Center focusing on transit and livability, participates in the region UTC center, and is a partner in two other UTC centers.  More than 40 full-time research faculty members conduct $12-$14 million annually in transportation research contracts and grants for clients at the local, state, and national levels.  CUTR’s research faculty includes engineers, urban planners, economists, policy professionals, and others. 

In addition, USF Civil & Environmental Engineering faculty have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in complementary programs including Urban and Regional Planning, the Patel College of Global Sustainability, Business, Public Administration, Marine Sciences, Architecture, the Colleges of Medicine and Public Health, the Clean Energy Research Center (CERC), and the Florida Center for Cyber Security.
