Department
of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution
Texas
A&M University
The
Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution (ETID) at
Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure track faculty
position at the assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor
level starting in fall 2015. The successful applicants will be expected to
teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop an independent,
externally funded research program, participate in all aspects of the
department’s mission, and serve the profession. Through effective industrial
advisory committees that provide valuable guidance, the department has numerous
opportunities for the development of laboratories and sponsorship of applied
research activities. By being an integral part of the College of Engineering,
there is excellent interaction with faculty in other engineering programs to
support large scale college initiatives, as well as access to graduate students
to assist in instructional and applied research activities. Strong written and
verbal communication skills are required. Applicants should consult the
department’s website to review our academic and research programs
(engineering.tamu.edu/etid).
Texas
A&M is located in the twin cities of Bryan and College Station, with a
population of more than 175,000, and is conveniently located in a triangle
formed by Dallas, Houston and Austin. Texas A&M has more than 50,000
graduate and undergraduate students enrolled. Research expenditures at Texas
A&M total more than $800 million annually, ranking 24th nationally. With an
endowment valued at more than $5 billion, the university ranks fourth among
U.S. public universities and 10th overall. With 365 tenured/tenure-track
faculty members and more than 12,000 students, the Dwight Look College of
Engineering is the third largest engineering school in the country.
The college is ranked seventh in
graduate studies and eighth in undergraduate programs
by U.S. News & World Report, with seven of the college’s 13
departments ranked in the Top 10. The Look College is ranked second in research
expenditures by the American Society for Engineering Education.
The
Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution (ETID) is
unique among the Dwight Look College’s 13 departments due to its strong focus
on applied research and undergraduate education. Currently, the department has
35 tenured and non-tenured faculty members to support academic program in
electronic systems engineering technology (ESET), manufacturing and mechanical
engineering technology (MMET), and industrial distribution (IDIS) with an
overall enrollment of approximately 1,200 undergraduate and 140 graduate
students. The faculty also supports approximately $3 million annually in
applied research and professional development efforts spanning areas that
include embedded systems, communications, advanced manufacturing, intelligent
product design and development, supply chain management, and educational
research.
Applicants
must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate engineering or closely related
field, and a background conducive to the development of an applied and/or
educational research program by being able to work closely with industry and/or
government agencies. Academic and industrial experiences are highly desired.
Preference will be given to candidates with recent and relevant hands-on design
and development experience in one or more of the following: mechatronics,
electromechanical systems design, as well as development of products and
processes especially in one of the following areas: oil/gas, manufacturing,
robotics and automation, healthcare or energy.
Applicants
should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, research
statement, and a list of four references (including postal addresses, phone
numbers and email addresses) by applying for this specific position at www.tamengineeringjobs.com. Full
consideration will be given to applications received by December 15, 2014.
Applications received after that date may be considered until positions are
