The Department of Civil and
Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the South Dakota School of Mines &
Technology invites applications for nine-month tenure-track faculty positions
in Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management,
Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineering and/or a Civil or Environmental
Engineering area that brings innovative research capabilities to the
department. The department anticipates filling multiple faculty positions.
Preference for the Structural position will be given to candidates with
industry experience and the ability to teach steel design. Preference for the
Construction Engineering and Management position will be given to candidates
with experience with distance education delivery methods. The positions
will be filled at the Assistant Professor level, although candidates with
exceptional academic and research credentials may be considered at a higher
level. The anticipated start date is August 2015, however, there is the
possibility that one of the positions could start as early as January
2015.
An earned doctorate in Civil or
Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline is required by the start date, and evidence of the potential for
excellence in teaching and research is required. The successful
candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, establish a strong
externally funded research program, and develop collaborative research within
the department and with others at the School of Mines. Preference will be given
to candidates who have bachelor’s degrees from ABET accredited engineering
programs or equivalent and those who have obtained or will obtain professional
licensure in a reasonable period of time. The CEE Department has a BS degree in
Civil Engineering, minors in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable
Engineering, MS degrees in CEE and Construction Management and a PhD in CEE,
and participates in two interdisciplinary PhD programs. The department has
thirteen full-time faculty and approximately 300 students. Additional

1885, the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is a technological
