Faculty Positions in Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State
University
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State
University (WSU) is seeking candidates for three tenure-eligible faculty
positions at the assistant professor rank. Exceptional applicants may be
considered at the rank of associate professor. An earned doctorate in
mechanical or a closely-related engineering field (to be awarded before May 31,
2015), notable record of journal publications and scholarly activities,
evidence of potential to attract external funding and conduct research,
effective communication skills, evidence of teaching potential, and disposition
to work with diverse populations are required. A bachelor’s degree in
mechanical engineering is strongly preferred. Research areas preferred for the
three positions include but not limited to: 1) mechatronics, dynamics and
controls, robotics, acoustics; 2) thermal-fluids sciences, renewable energy
systems, smart building, energy-water conservation technologies; 3) advanced
materials, nanotechnology, bio-mechanics, automotive technologies, and any
other new and emerging technologies. Responsibilities will include effective
teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, establishing an externally
funded research program, publishing in reputable journals, supervising graduate
students, and participating in university/professional service.
Wichita State University has an attractively landscaped
campus with approximately 15,000 students. Wichita metro area has a population
of approximately 600,000 and it is known as the "Air Capital of the
World" that is home to major companies such as Airbus, Bombardier Learjet,
Cessna, Chance industries, Johnson Controls, Koch, Siemens, and Spirit
AeroSystems. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact
with these companies. Currently, the ME Department has nearly 600 undergraduate
and 125 graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students.
