NOTES:
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING FACULTY POSITIONS
The School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University has
multiple openings for exceptional faculty candidates at all levels, with
interests in both traditional and emerging research areas. An aggressive
hiring program over the past two years has resulted in substantial growth of
the School and the enhancement of its impact in research, education, and
engagement. Now applications are invited for additional tenure-track
positions. Exceptional applicants in all specializations relevant to
Mechanical Engineering will receive serious consideration.
Faculty expertise is sought in fundamental disciplinary areas
including: acoustics, dynamics, vibrations, design, measurements, controls,
energy and thermo-fluid transport. Topical areas of interest include: the
analysis and design of complex systems; multi-scale and multi-physics analysis,
design, and experimentation; multi-objective optimization in system and machine
design; transformative design paradigms enabled by new manufacturing
technologies and the internet of things; the intelligent acquisition of large
data and information sets by sensors or other means, and their use in model
formulation and verification; synergistic computation and experimentation; and uncertainty
quantification. Application areas of interest include: manufacturing and
materials processing, including nano- and bio-manufacturing; noise and
vibration control; non-traditional machine and mechanism design; multi-body
dynamical systems; structural health monitoring; engineered biological and
biomedical systems; combustion; turbomachinery; propulsion; renewable and
sustainable energy systems; advanced energy conversion and power generation
systems; and high-performance buildings.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical
Engineering or a related field and have a distinguished academic record.
A successful candidate will develop a world-class research program, will advise
graduate students, will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses,
and will perform service at all levels. While candidates at the
Assistant/Associate Professor level are specifically targeted, exceptional
candidates at full rank will receive serious consideration. Note that
candidates with experience working with diverse groups of students, faculty,
and staff and the ability to contribute to an inclusive climate are strongly
encouraged to apply.
Interested applicants should use https://engineering.purdue.edu/Engr/AboutUs/Employment/Applications
to submit their applications on-line. Please indicate specifically the
classification in which you want the application to be considered: (i)
Mechanics, Acoustics, Systems, and Design; or (ii) Thermo-fluid Systems and
Energy. Required materials include curriculum vitae, statement of
research and teaching interests, and the names and contact information for at
least four (six for appointment at Associate or higher level) professional
references. For information/questions regarding applications please
contact Ms. Marion Ragland, Faculty Recruitment Coordinator, College of
Engineering, at: ragland@purdue.edu.
Review of applications will begin November 1, 2014 and will continue until the
positions are filled. A background check will be required for employment
in this position.
Established in 1882, the School of Mechanical Engineering is
the oldest of Purdue’s engineering schools and has granted over 27,000
degrees. The School has become synonymous with innovation and outstanding
accomplishment in engineering research, education, and global engagement.
In addition to supporting faculty expansion, the School’s fund raising has
enabled the newly-opened, LEED-certified, $34.5M Roger B. Gatewood Wing of
Mechanical Engineering with substantial space dedicated to design research and
education; the $30M LEED-certified expansion of the Ray W. Herrick
Laboratories; a planned expansion of facilities at the Maurice J. Zucrow
Laboratories; and numerous endowed scholarships and fellowships. Its
annual research expenditures and endowment/trust funds have grown rapidly to
$24M per year and over $80M, respectively.
Purdue’s main campus is located in West Lafayette, Indiana, a
welcoming and diverse community with a wide variety of cultural activities and
events, industries, and excellent schools. Purdue and the College of
Engineering have a Concierge Program to assist new faculty and their partners
with dual-career needs and to facilitate their relocation.
Purdue University is an EEO/AA employer fully
committed to achieving a diverse workforce. All individuals, including
minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ, and veterans are
encouraged to apply.
