The Department of ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS of the UNIVERSITY of LOUISVILLE is seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor rank.

 The J.B. Speed School of Engineering is implementing an ambitious new strategic plan with a vision of excellence in engineering education, research, and community engagement. The plan calls for a major investment in the School’s faculty, to ensure a thriving academic enterprise with significant growth in research and scholarly profiles. The Department of Engineering Fundamentals will play a key role in realizing the Speed School’s vision of educational excellence.  One way will be through the newly created Speed School Center for Teaching and Learning Engineering housed within Engineering Fundamentals.

The Engineering Fundamentals Department is comprised of faculty who teach common core courses taken by all entering engineering students, including undergraduate mathematics courses. The department seeks to provide a positive and supportive environment where students are enabled to succeed academically while gaining an understanding of the engineering profession and its disciplines. Department faculty are expected to participate in education and scholarship. The department’s strategic plan calls for the development and evaluation of innovative teaching methods leading to the adoption of sound methods, both traditional and technology enabled.

Candidates are expected to have an earned doctorate in engineering or education, with an undergraduate degree in any engineering discipline. Candidates must possess a solid commitment to engineering education and excellent communication skills. They must have demonstrated research experience evidenced by refereed conference and journal publications, and have the potential to develop a robust, funded scholarly program in engineering education and/or engineering research. Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in an introductory engineering course and/or core engineering courses as well as calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and numerical methods courses for engineers and those who have participated on funded grants.

Candidates are required to submit an application that includes a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching and research interests, and the names of three professional references. Although applications will be accepted until the position is filled, review of applications will begin January 5, 2015 with the desire to fill the position by July 1, 2015.
