The new Industrial Engineering program at Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level. Candidates must have a PhD in industrial engineering or a related discipline. Qualified applicants with diverse backgrounds and interests are welcome, but preference will be given to those applicants with a background and interest in Advanced Manufacturing and/or Materials Science who possess the ability to teach a variety of industrial engineering classes. A strong candidate should have the potential to make an impact on the future of one of the newest industrial engineering programs in the nation, preparing undergraduate students for the many employment opportunities in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina and beyond. New faculty members will become part of the vibrant academic community committed to high-quality education, scholarship, and the industrial engineering profession.

The Industrial Engineering program at Francis Marion was officially approved in the fall of 2013 and the first class was offered in the spring semester 2014. The Industrial Engineering major is in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, which oversees programs in physics and engineering. Francis Marion is one hour from Myrtle Beach and is in the heart of the Pee Dee region of South Carolina. There are extensive opportunities to collaborate with local companies representing manufacturing, health care, and tourism. The successful applicant will be expected to provide innovative, high-quality teaching, engage in collaborative efforts with local industries, and contribute to the goals and missions of the department, college, and university.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in IE or a related field
  • A strong work ethic and a desire to teach at the undergraduate level
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
FM Preferences:
  • Prior teaching experience in an ABET-accredited program
  • Research experience 
Start Date: August 2016
