The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in the areas of automotive engines, combustion and powertrain. The appointment would be effective August 2016.

We seek applicants with research and teaching interests related to IC engines, conventional and hybrid vehicle propulsion systems, combustion or powertrain controls. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that includes fundamental and/or applied research. The candidate should be able to teach and develop courses in the thermo-fluids area at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required with a recent history of or strong potential for external funding and successful teaching abilities in related courses.

The Mechanical Engineering Department has 17 full time faculty members who are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching and service. The department hosts four centers: Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Materials, Fastening and Joining Research Institute, Automotive Tribology Center and the Clean Energy Research Center all of which are active in research. Oakland University is a state-supported institution of over 20,000 students situated in southeastern Michigan on a beautiful 1,400-acre campus in Rochester, MI. The university is located at the intellectual center of the global automotive industry and the surrounding area offers many social, cultural and recreational activities.
