The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate in systems engineering, engineering management, cost analysis, environmental engineering and science, industrial hygiene, industrial engineering, or a related discipline. We seek a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative leader with the vision and ability to lead a faculty with a diverse range of interests. The successful candidate should have a record of achievement that is commensurate with appointment as a full professor.
The Department of Systems Engineering and Management is one of six departments in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management offering PhD in systems engineering and master’s degrees in systems engineering, engineering management, cost analysis, environmental engineering and science, and industrial hygiene, many of which are accredited by ABET. The department has a strong record of publication and externally funded research with particular emphasis on defense-related issues. There are 20 full-time faculty and 6 staff and administrative personnel serving an enrollment of nearly 150 graduate students. AFIT is a federal and fully-accredited academic institution. As a doctoral/research university, AFIT’s Graduate School of Engineering and Management offers 14 PhD and 23 MS programs. Research, funded from Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD agencies, is often accomplished through one of seven research centers. The Institute provides defense-focused graduate education primarily for DoD personnel (military officers, enlisted, and civilians) who are competitively selected to attend AFIT full-time with full fellowships. International officers and part-time students also attend AFIT. The school is located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) near Dayton, Ohio. WPAFB is the largest single base for research, development, and acquisition in the Air Force. It is home to the Air Force Materiel Command, Life Cycle Management Center, Air Force Research Laboratory, and National Air and Space Intelligence Center, all of which actively sponsor research at AFIT. This nexus of intellectual capital provides an ideal collaborative research environment between AFIT faculty and students and these organizations.
To apply for the position, please submit a letter of application and a professional curriculum vitae that includes the names and contact information for three references (including email addresses) who will be contacted only with the permission of the applicant. Additionally, please submit a statement that articulates your vision, both as a department head and a faculty member, of how you will contribute to AFIT’s mission. This position requires U.S. Citizenship and the eligibility to gain a security clearance. Excellent civil service retirement, healthcare, and other benefits are included.
AFIT is a member of the NSF ADVANCE LEADER Consortium (www.wright.edu/leader/), and candidates are expected to share AFIT’s commitment to this and other campus diversity initiatives. Members of historically under-represented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. AFIT is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We welcome applications from all qualified and eligible candidates.
All application materials must be submitted by email to ENV_Head_Search@afit.edu and will be reviewed upon receipt. For full consideration, applications must be received by 30 Nov 2013.
