Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in
Biology with Specialization in Microbiology
The Department of Biology at
the University of Dayton invites applications for a tenure-track assistant
professor in Microbiology to join the faculty beginning August 16, 2014.
Requirements for the position include a Ph.D., relevant post-doctoral
experience and a demonstrated record of excellence in research.
Preference will be given to candidates with a primary research focus in
one or more of the following areas of biomedical microbiology: infectious
disease, immunology, virology, host-microbe interactions, microbial physiology
or another area of modern biomedical microbiology. Preference will be given to
individuals with experience teaching in the areas listed who will contribute to
our collaborative culture.
The
candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program
that involves Ph.D., M.S. and undergraduate students. Teaching
expectations typically include an undergraduate/graduate lecture and a
laboratory course in microbiology, alternating with a course in immunology,
infectious disease or virology. The faculty hire will be expected to mentor
graduate and undergraduate students and serve as an academic advisor to biology
and pre-medicine majors. In addition, the faculty hire will be expected to
participate in the departments outside speaker program, a graduate special
topics journal club course, and to supervise an occasional undergraduate
seminar course.
