Assistant Professor, Coastal Sustainability-Biology and Policy

The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position in Coastal Sustainability-Biology and Policy at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) level. Applicants should be able to contribute to the foundation for the new graduate and undergraduate programs in interdisciplinary coastal science and policy, which are important components of the coastal sustainability academic and research initiatives at UCSC. Candidates should have a background in biology or a related discipline and be able to demonstrate engagement with coastal policy, governance, economics, law, or social science. The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) complement existing expertise across campus in biology, environmental science, policy, social science, and economics, (2) form collaborations outside the university (e.g., environmental practitioners, government agencies, entrepreneurs, corporate partners), (3) develop a strong research program providing research opportunities for post-doctoral, graduate and undergraduate students, and (4) teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the department. The selected candidate must be able to work with students, faculty and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.

RANK: Assistant Professor

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in ecology, biology or a related discipline (e.g., resource management, environmental science) with a focus on coastal ecosystems (e.g; coastal terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine or nearshore marine). Demonstrated engagement with coastal policy, governance, economics, law, or social science.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Post-doctoral or equivalent research or practitioner experience. Demonstration of ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level.
