The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in continuous optimization, a field in the mathematics of operations research, beginning Fall Semester 2014. Responsibilities of this position include teaching, research, contribution to the Department’s Ph.D. program in applied mathematics, and other professional service. A typical faculty teaching load is two courses per semester.
The primary selection criteria will be an applicant’s potential for quality research and effective teaching at all levels. Among applicants who are found highly qualified with respect to these criteria, preference will be given to those with evidence of experience or potential in developing research links or student projects that lead to external funding, as well as to those who can enhance research collaboration within the Department or complement the research areas of the Department.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 29 full-time faculty members, who have research strengths in pure and applied mathematics and statistics. The Department offers baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science; master’s degrees in mathematics, industrial and applied mathematics, and applied statistics; and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in the three different areas of continuous mathematics, discrete mathematics and statistics. In addition, the Department teaches a full range of service courses to students in the sciences, engineering, business and education programs.
