Applications
and nominations are sought for the position of head of the Department of Civil
and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at Colorado State
University. We are seeking a leader who will promote and advance the research,
educational and outreach missions of the department. The head of Civil and
Environmental Engineering reports to the Dean of Engineering.
Qualifications
The
applicant must have an earned doctorate degree in Civil or Environmental
Engineering or closely related field, as well as a demonstrated record of excellence
in research and teaching appropriate for appointment as a tenured full
professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado
State University. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Evidence of administrative and
leadership effectiveness;
- A compelling vision specific to
the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at CSU;
- The ability to generate
external funding for research and educational initiatives in Civil and
Environmental Engineering; and
- Strong verbal and written
communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to a wide
variety of people.

institutional values, candidates are expected to have the ability to
advance the Department's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Civil
and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University
The CEE Department at CSU is recognized both
nationally and internationally for excellence in education, research, and
service and outreach programs, and is ranked in the top 35 of such programs in the USA. The
CEE Department consists of 33 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 494
undergraduate students and 307 graduate students, of which 86 are at the Ph.D.
level, 153 are at the M.S. level, and 68 are at the M.E. level. The faculty,
research associates and students in the CEE Department are extremely active in conducting cutting
edge research in numerous areas of both civil and environmental
engineering. Research expenditures for the CEE Department at CSU exceeded

Our campus is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, a community
of approximately 150,000 located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains about
65 miles (105 km) north of Denver, that is routinely recognized as one of the
most desirable places to live in the entire country. We enjoy approximately 300
sunny days a year and a semi-arid climate, and numerous recreational and
cultural activities.
Deadlines and Application Process

Deadline: The full consideration deadline to apply is December 31, 2013
at midnight, MST; however applications will be accepted until the position is
filled. Nominations may be directed to the search chair. Prof. Susan James (ceeheadsearch@engr.colostate.edu) and should be received by November 1, 2013.
A
completed application should include a letter of interest, a full curriculum
vitae, separate statements on educational philosophy, research initiatives,
leadership and vision for the department, as well as names, telephone numbers
and email addresses for four professional references. The complete application
should be submitted electronically, as a single PDF document, to ceeheadsearch@engr.colostate.edu.

until the short list of individuals to be invited for interviews is announced.
