The
Department of ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS
of the UNIVERSITY of LOUISVILLE is
seeking candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant
professor rank.
The
J.B. Speed School of Engineering is implementing an ambitious new strategic
plan with a vision of excellence in engineering education, research, and
community engagement. The plan calls for a major investment in the School’s
faculty, to ensure a thriving academic enterprise with significant growth in
research and scholarly profiles. The Department of Engineering Fundamentals
will play a key role in realizing the Speed School’s vision of educational
excellence. One way will be through the
planned establishment of a Speed School Center for Teaching and Learning housed
within Engineering Fundamentals.
The
Engineering Fundamentals Department is comprised of faculty who teach core,
introductory courses taken by engineering students before they matriculate to
their chosen engineering department. The department seeks to provide a positive
and supportive environment where students are enabled to succeed academically while
gaining an understanding of the engineering profession and its disciplines. Department
faculty are expected to participate in educational research in support of the
department’s strategic plan to develop and evaluate innovative teaching methods
and adopt sound methods, both traditional and technology enabled.
Candidates
are expected to have an earned doctorate in engineering with an undergraduate
degree in any engineering discipline; strongly preferred are candidates with a
doctorate in engineering education. Candidates must possess a solid commitment
to engineering education research and excellent communication skills. They must have demonstrated educational research experience
evidenced by refereed conference and journal publications and participation on
funded grants. Preference will be given
to those who have teaching experience in an introductory engineering course and
those with a proven record in obtaining educational research funding.
Candidates
are required to submit an application that includes curriculum vitae, a
statement of teaching and research interests, and the names of three
professional references. Although applications will be accepted until the
position is filled, review of applications will begin January 5, 2014 with the desire
to fill the position by July 1, 2014.
