Tenure-Track Faculty Position
The Mechanical
Engineering Department at the University of Idaho invites applications for a
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the
areas of design and manufacturing. Candidates are sought whose research focuses
on connecting modern design approaches with advanced manufacturing methods. The
ideal candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas;
design innovation, design optimization, design visualization, design for
manufacturing, manufacturing automation, additive and/or other emerging
manufacturing technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to establish
a nationally competitive externally-funded research program and participate in
interdisciplinary research efforts both inside and outside the College of
Engineering.
The Mechanical
Engineering Department at the University of Idaho has a strong tradition of
providing excellent instruction and mentoring to both undergraduate and
graduate students. The engineering faculty takes pride in creating outstanding
engineers that excel in both industrial and academic careers. Successful
candidates will be expected to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate
courses, mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, contribute to
the senior capstone design course, assist in the assessment of ME courses, and
participate in distance education through the UI’s Engineering Outreach
program.

interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research,
teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of our academic
community.
Minimum qualifications include:
Minimum qualifications include:
- a Ph.D. (preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, or
closely related field;
- evidence of successfully teaching college-level
engineering courses;
- evidence of being able to develop an active research agenda
with research expertise in design, design for manufacturing, advanced
manufacturing, and it is desirable to have an interest in control systems;
- evidence of potential to acquire external funding;
- excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- and is a registered professional engineer (PE) or becomes registered within five years.
Desirable
qualifications include:
- university level teaching experience;
- outstanding research records and the potential to
establish a successful research program in design for manufacturing and/or
advanced manufacturing;
- evidence of successful grant procurement related to the
candidate’s research interests and the potential to collaborate with other
faculty in teaching and research;
- propensity for scholarship and the potential to be an
excellent teacher both in the classroom and the laboratory, and have an
interest in advising and mentoring undergraduate students;
- professional experience in engineering or related
field;
- and an interest/motivation to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses.
