FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT – Manufacturing and/or
Logistics
The Industrial & Systems Engineering Department in
the College of Engineering at the University of Washington invites applications
for two full-time tenure track faculty positions. We are seeking individuals to begin at the
rank of assistant professor, although more senior individuals with strong
credentials may be considered.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Systems
Engineering and/or Operations Research or a related field and have research interests
in the focus areas of manufacturing/ production systems and/or integrated
logistics/transportation systems. Applicants interested in research related to
clean energy are encouraged to apply. Both positions are part of “cluster”
hires, involving Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering
for the manufacturing position and Civil and Environmental Engineering for the
logistics position. This implies that the other partners are also hiring in
related areas with the goal of enhancing re!

partnerships in these areas. These
positions are contingent on budgetary approval.
University of Washington faculty engage in research,
teaching, and service. The Industrial & Systems Engineering Department has
research and teaching areas in manufacturing systems, operations research,
optimization, supply chain systems, simulation, quality and reliability, human
factors and virtual environments, and healthcare systems. The successful applicant will be expected to
provide innovative, high-quality teaching that integrates research with
instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level; engage in collaborative
research efforts that help build on one of the research focus areas, by
developing a vigorous, collaborative, funded research program; and contribute
to the goals and missions of the department, college, and university.
In addition to being in the beautiful Pacific Northwest,
the University of Washington ranks second in the nation (behind Johns Hopkins)
in federal funding for research.
Industrial & Systems Engineering at UW has 10 faculty, 40 full-time
graduate students in residence, and 120 undergraduates. The annual research volume of our faculty is
currently over $2 million. Our faculty
conduct interdisciplinary research in health systems engineering, manufacturing
and production, supply chain, transportation and logistics, and operations
research. We are committed to excellent
