NOTES:
The College of Engineering Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University is pleased to
invite applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice position that will be available in Spring 2014.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering, founded in 2006 following a 35-year history as a research Center, has 20 departmental faculty members, over 70 affiliated graduate faculty from five Colleges, and a tradition of excellence in research and graduate education. A new undergraduate program has recently started with the inaugural graduating class of 2011; the undergraduate program was accredited by ABET in Summer 2012. We have faculty expertise in five biomedical engineering “domains” including: Bioimaging; Biomaterials; Biomechanics and Biotransport; Molecular, Cellular and Tissue Engineering (including Regenerative Medicine); and Biomedical Micro/Nano Technology.
The Professor of Practice position is a non-tenure track designation necessitated by the growth of our
undergraduate major in biomedical engineering and will continue to focus on the experiential learning aspects of our undergraduate curriculum. This includes teaching, technical instruction, and resource development for our undergraduates.
Responsibilities in teaching require working with other faculty to mentor senior Capstone Design projects coming from rehabilitation engineering, medicine, and industry. Further activities include expanding laboratory
components of our undergraduate curriculum in the domain labs and the measurement and instrumentation
labs. Technical instruction will require the Assistant Professor of Practice to assist with the hands-on portion of the BME undergraduate domain courses, and to oversee the maintenance and student training of all educational lab equipment. Experience in machining, electronics, and programming is desired.
The Assistant Professor of Practice will also seek resource development and will work with other faculty to seek funding from NSF and NIH (engineering education), NSF-NUE (curriculum and laboratory infrastructure), NSFREU, private foundations, and industry.
We plan to invite selected applicants for interviews as early as December 2013; however, the search will continue until the position is filled. Rank and salary are commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications.
Applicants are asked to send PDF versions of their CV, a brief description of relevant experience and teaching Experience and plans, and names and addresses of three references to BME_Practice@osu.edu
